Policy & Legislation

The South Carolina Rare Disease Advisory Council (SC RDAC) is committed to supporting individuals and families affected by rare diseases by improving access to information, resources, and opportunities for engagement. This Policy & Legislation page provides an overview of state-level policy activity that may be relevant to the rare disease community, as well as tools to help South Carolinians connect with their elected representatives.

Our goal is to make it easier for stakeholders to stay informed about legislative developments that could influence rare disease research, care, services, and patient support across the state.

This page is informational only and is not intended to endorse, oppose, or advocate for any specific bill or policy.

How to Identify Your State Representatives

Understanding who represents you in the South Carolina General Assembly is an important step in staying engaged on issues that affect the rare disease community. South Carolina residents can identify their State Senator and State Representative by using the "Find Your Legislators” tool available through the South Carolina Legislature. This tool allows users to search by home address or county to quickly locate their elected officials, view district maps, and access contact information.

State Legislation Tracker

This section provides a summary of proposed legislation in South Carolina that may be of interest to the rare disease community. The tracker is informational only and does not suggest support or opposition to any bill. Bills included here have potential relevance to the rare disease community based on their subject matter, but this list should not be considered complete. Each bill’s status may change as it moves through the legislative process. The SC RDAC will update the tracker periodically to reflect newly introduced bills or changes in status as information becomes available.

South Carolina operates under a two‑year legislative session, meaning any bill that does not pass by the end of the 2025–2026 session will expire and must be refiled for consideration in the next session. As a result, legislation listed here may become inactive at the conclusion of the cycle, and future versions may differ from those introduced during the current biennium. Users seeking the most up-to-date information are encouraged to review the official South Carolina Legislature website.
